Star Sports garners 47.5 cr viewers in the first 34 IPL matches; Dhoni fever adds to the new high

As the Tata IPL is progressing, the cricket fever has led to set new records not just in the sport but also in terms viewership. In an official release, broadcaster Disney Star stated that it has witnessed continued rise in TV viewership for the marquee tournament.

According to the latest data released by BARC
, Disney Star, in the first 34 matches, has achieved a cumulative reach of 47.5 crore viewers, recording a growth of 5 per cent on TV reach for Live Broadcast compared to the previous highest recorded in 2019.

Moreover, the broadcaster has seen an 18 per cent growth from previous edition in minutes of total watch time with 24,500 crore minutes spent.

Disney Star also witnessed a growth of 19% in TVR for the first 34 matches.

The clash between Mumbai Indians (MI) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) during the rivalry week proved to be a spectacle for cricket fans worldwide.

The match, held at Wankhede Stadium and won by CSK, witnessed a staggering 6.3 crore concurrent viewers on TV, reaching unprecedented levels of viewership during MS Dhoni’s breathtaking display of power hitting, scoring 20 runs off just 4 balls.

Moreover, the electrifying encounter set a new benchmark for viewership concurrency, surpassing all league games across the current and previous seasons.

As the action unfolded on the field and ace batsman Dhoni walked in, the Star Sports Shor Meter at the stadium registered a deafening 131 decibels, the highest recorded for the season, reflecting the intensity and passion of the fans.

Disney Star is airing TATA IPL 2024 on 14 channels in 10 languages, including a dedicated feed in Indian Sign Language for Deaf, Hard-of-Hearing, and Visually Impaired fans. The marketing campaign for the 17th edition of the tournament, titled “AJAB IPL KE GAJAB RANG,” centers around the insight that a fan's true colors are revealed through their team's journey in the tournament, with each IPL moment experienced uniquely by different viewers.

Star Sports this year has also partnered with Tata Play and Airtel Digital TV to offer IPL matches on 4K resolution and enabled Value Added Services.
