States should work together to check NE insurgency: Nagaland governor

KOHIMA: Nagaland Governor R N Ravi on Thursday stressed on the need for an integrated approach to tackle the issue of insurgency in the northeast.

Security cannot be fragmented between the states, he said and emphasised on the need for an integrated approach by the sister states to deal with insurgency in the region.

Ravi said that there has been a remarkable improvement in the security situation of the region because of the good work of the police, CAPFs and security agencies. He added that the policing thrust now has to shift in day-to-day professional policing which he felt was grossly neglected during the long counter-insurgency period.

The dividends of peace must reach to the common man and their security concerns should be our priority, Ravi said. Prevention and detection of crimes, scientific investigation of the cases and successful prosecution of criminals should be accorded priority by the police, he said "Performance evaluation of police stations and district police should be based on these parameters," he maintained.

The governor urged the police chiefs for launching sustained drives in their states against illicit firearms.
