Striped hyena rescued in Etawah dist

Kanpur: A striped hyena was rescued by volunteers of Society for Conservation of Nature, social forestry division and National Chambal Sanctuary officials from Badhpura area under Manikapura forest range in Etawah district on Saturday.

Sanjiv Chauhan, secretary, SCON, told TOI that locals of Badhpura found the animal entangled in wires fenced around fields on Saturday morning.

“SCON volunteers along with social forestry division and National Chambal Sanctuary officials rescued the animal and shifted it to veterinary centre for primary treatment,” said Chauhan.

“The animal got injured while trying to free itself from the wires. The animal will be release in wild after treatment,” he said and added that the animal has been categorised as ‘Near Threatened’ species on a global scale by the International Union for Conservation of Nature”.
