Sultanpur Lodhi railway station to get new look ahead of Guru's 550th birth anniversary

Ferozepur: Ahead of the 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev, railway authorities have decided to give a new look to Sultanpur Lodhi railway station which is expected to serve 30 lakh pilgrims to the city to participate in the historic event. The railways will put up 13 arcs, symbolic of ‘Tera Tera’.

Disclosing this to the media persons, Rajesh Aggarwal, divisional rail manager (DRM), Ferozepur Division said, “For the 550th birth anniversary celebrations at Sultanpur Lodhi, pilgrims in lakhs are expected to arrive in the town.

Trains being a convenient means of transportation, we have expanded all the required facilities provided at the railway station, said Aggarwal.

Sultanpur Lodhi has historically and religiously important as Guru Nanak Dev lived here for 14 years. It is here that he got married to Bibi Sulakhni and later attained enlightenment at the end of 15th century. The town is dotted with gurdwaras, commemorating events from his life.

Since the approach to the Sultanpur Lodhi is through two railway crossings, the railway authorities have decided to convert both of them as railway underpass for uninterrupted flow of traffic during the celebration days, said DRM. They will also construct high-level platform number 2 and foot-over-bridge to connect both the platforms for the convenience of the passengers, said Aggarwal.

The DRM said, the station will also be given an architectural face-lift with 13 arcs, symbolic to the belief of ‘Tera Tera’ of Guru Nanak Dev. The new railway station will be ready by the end of October, well before the celebrations. DRM also shared the sketches of the station’s impending face-lift with the media.
