Summer camps will be held in all govt schools: Minister

Mysuru: Primary education minister S Suresh Kumar announced that summer camps will be held in all government schools to provide a platform for the students to sharpen their skills and exhibit their talents.

He made this announcement after a night stay at the government higher primary school in Gopinatham on Chamarajanagar-Tamil Nadu border.

“The students will be out of school for nearly one-and-a-half months in the summer vacation. These days will be utilised for summer camps. Mid-day meals will also be provided to the students,” he said.

Suresh Kumar, who stayed back in the school with two senior RSS activists, also held an interaction with the students who favoured public examinations in Class VII.

Meanwhile, the night stay turned out to be an emotional one when a Class V student, Deena, started crying seeking the minister’s help for his higher education saying he lost his father very early and his mother is very poor. The minister asked officials to ensure that he gets the hostel facility besides asking him to score well.

During the interaction, the students demanded better facilities for them including hostel for all since there is no electricity in the forests. They also demanded a reduction in the bus fare between Palar and Hogenakal towns. The local youths urged Suresh Kumar, who is also the district in-charge minister, for Chamarajanagar to resolve the issues related to caste certificates for them.

The students told the minister that two classrooms of the school don't have electricity though live wires are passing above the school roof. They urged the minister to provide skill training, besides converting the local Class 1 to IV at Tamil lower primary school into a Kannada medium school. The villagers also demanded an agriculture adalat in the village.

Speaking to reporters, Suresh Kumar said that his school stay initiative will continue.

“Soon, Chamarajanagar district will lose the tag of under-developed district and it will move fast in the path of development.

The minister said that BJP will win 13-15 assembly seats in the by-election.

“We will win above 13 seats definitely,” he said.

Speaking to reporters at Gopinatham in Chamarajanagar district, he said.

The minister also visited the Maramma temple constructed by villagers and offered prayers at the temple.

He also stated that he will talk about former chief minister Siddaramaiah only after the byelection.
