Surat: Conman tries to influence officers at DGGI

SURAT: Officials of Director General of GST Intelligence (DGGI) nabbed a man on Friday who tried to fool them by posing as deputy director (vigilance) of Department of Central Vigilance Commission (DCVC). The accused went to the office of DGGI and tried to impress senior officers by flashing his forged identity card.

However, his fraud was exposed within minutes when they asked him about his colleagues. Utpal Parekh, a resident of Vapi, confessed to them he was not an officer and was subsequently handed over to police.

Police investigation revealed that the accused had gone to DGGI office in a GST-related issue of his friend’s paper company in Vapi. He introduced himself as a vigilance officer to influence DGGI officers to get his work done. Parekh does liaison work for his clients in taxation-related issues. Parekh told police that he got the identity card from a person named Pramod Kumar of Delhi. “Parekh claimed that he was asked by Kumar to work as an officer of the vigilance team. If we get evidence against Kumar, he will be arrested,” said a police officer of Umra police station.
