Surat: Mumbai firm director held for GST evasion in Vapi

SURAT: The Directorate General of GST Intelligence’s (DDGI), Vapi , arrested a director of Mumbai-based infrastructure company for evasion of service tax to the tune of Rs 4.92 crore on Thursday.

Official sources said that the DGGI had conducted raid at Noma Infrastructure Private Limited located in Mumbai and its Vapi unit following the intelligence on the huge evasion of service tax.

The company is into the services of cargo handling, tangible goods storage and manpower supply.

Sources said that the owner of the company identified as Kundankumar Gupta was arrested by the DGGI’s Vapi unit and that he was produced in the Vapi court. The court has remanded the accused in jail custody till October 24.

Following the scrutiny of the documents and other related material seized from the company’s Mumbai and Vapi units, the officials unearthed service tax evasion of Rs 4.92 crore. The company had accepted payments after deducting service tax from its customers between April 2015 to June 2017. However, the deducted service tax was not deposited with the department.
