Surat RTO bans entry of touts, agents

Surat: The Regional Transport Office (RTO) has banned the entry of unauthorized agents and touts and issued notices to its inspectors and staff members to keep tab and report the movements of illegal persons, other than vehicle owners , entry the premises.

DK Chavda, in-charge RTO, Surat said that the state transport commissioner has issued state-wide circular to not tolerate the illegal activities of unauthorised agents on RTO premises.

“If the staff members violate the order, legal action will be taken” said Chavda. According to Chavda, surprise checking and inspection at regular intervals in the RTO office has been taken up to prevent the unauthorized entries in the premises. “There is no need for the vehicle owners to approach touts and agents for getting their work done at the RTO. An online system is in place where the vehicle owners and individuals can submit applications for driving licence online, pay transportation fees etc. The system at RTO is user friendly” claimed Chavda. Chavda added, “Expect for the deemed RTOs like automobile dealers, other unauthorised persons entering the RTO premises will be dealt with legally.” Sources said that there are more than 500 agents and touts operating in the RTO for the past many years. They are hand-in-glove with the RTO inspectors and staff members. “There are particular signs on the application forms marked with coloured pen by the agents. As and when the form reaches the inspectors, they identify the sign and approve the applications” said a staff employee in RTO on condition of anonymity.
