Surat to have a dinosaur park by July

SURAT: Surat Municipal Corporation’s garden department is developing a dinosaurs park in Mota Varachha area wherein it will install three replicas of dinosaurs by July, that had been made in a workshop in Vadodara.

The park to come up in 4200 sq m land near a swimming pool will provide city’s residents another great weekend getaway.

The three dinosaurs of different eras, built by sculptor Sunil Shrredhar, is made up of fibre glass with casting and steel fabrication. Artists took three months to develop these replicas using 400kg fibre and 6 rolls of mat which they reinforced with steel.

Shredhar said, “We have tried to make three different types of dinosaurs — Carnivore , Herbivore and winged dinosaurs — to showcase creatures that walked the Earth before mankind evolved. The basic purpose is amusement of people, but coupled with knowledge sharing too.”

According to Rajesh Pandya, deputy commissioner of SMC, the replicas have already arrived at the science centre and will be placed in the park assigned for them once the horticulture work in the park is complete.”

The three replicas – Stegosaurus, a herbivore, Tyrannosaurus Rex or the T Rex, a carnivore and Pterodactyl or the winged dinosaur , another carnivore — cost the SMC Rs 12 lakh.
