Nashik: Former state minister Sureshdada Jain, who is serving his sentence in the Nashik Road Central Jail after being convicted in the multi-crore housing scam in Jalgaon, was on Tuesday admitted to the Nashik civil hospital after he started complaining of chest pain and breathlessness.
The 76-year-old was rushed to the Nashik civil hospital at around 4.15 pm on Tuesday. Additional Civil Surgeon Nikhil Saindane said Jain’s sugar had shot up to 300 mg/dL.
“Jain was suffering from chest pain, breathlessness and urinary incontinence. The physicians at the civil hospital have checked him and administered primary medication. However, as we do not have a cardiologist, it has been decided to refer him either to the KEM Hospital or J J Hospital in Mumbai,” said Saindane.
Late in the evening on Tuesday, Jain was taken back to the Nashik Road Central Prison.
Pramod Wagh, the superintendent of Nashik Road Central Prison, said, “The condition of Sureshdada Jain is now stable. After scrutinising his medical reports, the future course of action will be decided.”
Jain and 47 others were convicted in the multi-crore Jalgaon Gharkul housing scam case on August 31 this year by a Dhule court and sentenced to seven years in prison. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 100 crore.
Ever since the sentence was awarded, Jain has been lodged at the Nashik Road Central Prison.
Officials at the prison said that given Jain’s age and his health condition, they had been keeping a close eye on his health ever since Jain was admitted.
