Tamil Nadu: Boats, huts set on fire as violent clashes erupt in Cuddalore; several detained

Chennai: Violent clashes broke between two groups in Tamil Nadu’s Cuddalore on Saturday night over the alleged murder of a family member of a former local body chief.

As per reports, several fishing boats, two-wheeler vehicles were set on fire during the clashes in Thalanguda village of the district.

Some reports say that the miscreants had also torched few houses and ransacked shops.

The two groups involved in the clashes were reportedly political rivals and had held enmity since last year’s local body polls, according to the police.

Nearly 50 people have been detained by the police from the village in connection with the violence, India Today reported.

Several people suffered injuries in the clashes and were admitted to the Cuddalore government hospital.

Meanwhile, security has been heightened in the area with the deployment of a heavy police force.
