Tamil Nadu: Burglars take just four bottles from Mahabs liquor shop

CHENNAI: Only four liquor bottles were found missing from a Tasmac shop in Mamallapuram that a group of burglars broke open on Wednesday night.

Police suspect that the gang had targeted cash in the shop. However, there were no cash left in the shop.

On Thursday morning, the supervisor of the shop found the shutter broken.

He checked the locker where goods are stocked up and found only four liquor bottles worth ?5,000 missing.

Police suspect the men drank the liquor before leaving the spot.

On information, the Mamallapuram police have registered a case and launched a search for the suspects. Police said that the employees were asked not to keep the daily collection of cash in the shop fearing theft. However, a case has been registered and the Tasmac authorities were instructed to install CCTV cameras.

Police suspect the theft to be the handiwork of previous offenders in the crime. They said that the gang might have targeted the shop in the wee hours. With liquor outlets still shut in Chennai, many offenders are indulging in stealing liquor bottles from shops in neighbouring districts, police said.

“Our patrol vehicles have been asked to keep an eye on these outlets during night patrol,” said an investigating officer.
