Tamil Nadu CM urged to pay salaries of guest lecturers

SALEM: State youth secretary of the Ambedkar Makkal Iyakkam (AMI) Junction A Annadurai submitted a petition to Tamil Nadu chief minister Edappadi K Palaniswami on Monday demanding the issuance of salary to guest lecturers .

After receiving the petition, the CM said he would look into it at the earliest.

Talking to TOI, Annadurai said, “A total of 4,084 guest lecturers have been working at 113 government arts and science colleges across the state."


He added that they were usually paid Rs 15,000 as a consolidated salary every month but had not been paid since April, as all the educational institutions were closed owing to the Covid-19 lockdown.
He said the higher education department had not reciprocated to the pleas from guest lecturers.

Citing the department's recent announcement to conduct online classes from August 3, Annadurai stated that many guest lecturers were taking classes online without being paid.
