Tamil Nadu: Five die in road accidents in Krishnagiri and Erode districts

KRISHNAGIRI/ERODE: Five people, including a couple, died in different road accidents in Krishnagiri and Erode districts of Tamil Nadu on Wednesday.

One of the accidents took place near Rayakottai in Krishnagiri district. Chinraj, 40, of Muthampatty village and his son Venkatesan, 22, were heading to Kelamangalam from Muthampatty on a bike on Wednesday evening at 6.30 pm.

On another bike, another man M Chinraj, 40, of Rayakottai was heading to Kelamangalam to Rayakottai on his bike.

“Both the bikes rammed each other at Thinnur bus stop near Rayakottai,” a police official from Rayakottai police station said. He also said that one died on the spot while two others sustained severe injuries. The victims were rushed to a government hospital in Rayakottai for treatment. “Both men succumbed to their injuries,” the police officer added.

Rayakottai police registered a case and initiated an inquiry.

Another incident took place at Punjaipuliyampatty in Erode district. A couple Sheik Mohideen, 50 of Chellammal colony in Tirupur district and his wife Ramjan Bibi, 46, went to Sathyamangalam to see their grandchildren on a bike.

When they were near Vinnapalli village, a speeding jeep that was heading to Punjaipuliyampatty from Sathyamangalam rammed the bike. “Sheik Mohideen succumbed to his injuries on the spot while his wife died at the hospital,” said a police official from Punjaipuliyampatty police station. Jeep driver P Arun Kumar, 36, was arrested. A case was registered in this regard, and further inquiries were on.
