Tamil Nadu man held in Durg for duping people

RAIPUR: Chhattisgarh police have arrested a Tamil Nadu-based person for allegedly duping scores of people across the country on pretext of providing family tour packages of foreign countries on cheap rates. The accused cheated people with offers from multi-level chain marketing company. Police arrested the accused when he was organising a meeting at a hotel in Durg .




CSP (Durg) Vivek Shukla told reporters that police received tip off regarding a person who had come from Tamil Nadu and was organising a meeting. The person who had given the tip-off had made a complaint against accused Dharmalingam Prabhakaran and informed that he has already duped many people on promise of cheap foreign tour packages. Acting on this, team of Mohan Nagar police station led by inspector Rajesh Bagde conducted raid at Hotel Garnet.

Prabhakaran was taken into custody when he was addressing a meeting of some locals and was trying to lure them to invest in his company. The accused is a resident of Salem in Tamil Nadu and is a director at a firm.

Prabhakaran was allegedly urging people to invest Rs7,000 in his company and become a member. These members would then ask five people each to join the company. In this manner, a pyramid scheme was formed and the members were promised huge returns on completion of every level. After the fifth level, the member was promised re-entry. The company had spread its chain in various states including Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand and some states in the Northeast. The complainant had informed police that Prabhakaran had duped many people earlier as well with different schemes. Back then, he had escaped after collecting huge amounts from common people.
