Tamil Nadu players begin training at Chepauk

CHENNAI: The cricketing action may be some time away but Tamil Nadu state players have begun their training sessions at the MA Chidambaram Stadium . B Aparajith and Indrajith had a running session at the Chepauk on Monday.

“Some of the cricketers are training at facilities near their residences but if they approach us to use the ground --- we are happy to give them permission.

Aparajith and Indrajith wanted to have a run and they had a session for almost an hour. Other players too are expected to come in the coming days,” a senior TNCA official told TOI.

The TNCA has also kept a pitch ready at the MAC ‘B’ ground for bowlers to come and train. “R Ashwin made a request to come and bowl and we have got one wicket ready for practice. We are yet to know as to when he is coming to bowl. If more requests come from other players, then we will think of having the other wickets ready too,” said the official.

Franchises keen to have TNPL matches only in Chennai: The fifth edition of the TNPL, scheduled to start on June 10, was postponed due to the ongoing lockdown. While TNCA looks to have the revised schedule in place, it is learnt that a majority of the franchises want the event to be held only in Chennai.

“Chennai wasn’t going to host matches in the previous schedule. Matches were to be held in Salem, Coimbatore, Dindigul and Tirunelveli. But the situation has changed in the last few months. We now want just one venue for the whole tournament purely for logistical reasons in this hour of crisis,” said one of the franchise owners.
