Tamil Nadu: Shocking! 15-year-old girl set on fire allegedly by two AIADMK functionaries, dies

A spine-chilling incident has come to light from Tamil Nadu’s Viluppuram district, where a 15-year-old girl succumbed to her burn injuries on Monday morning. As per the reports, she was set on ablaze by allegedly two AIADMK functionaries in Viluppuram district.

The minor girl has sustained over 70 percent burn injuries and was admitted to the Viluppuram Government Medical College.

The two men identified as G Murugan and K Kaliyaperumal, both functionaries of the ruling AIADMK party, according to the statement given by the victim.  Police have arrested both of them.

Kaliyaperumal holds a village level secretary post and Murugan is a party member and also the husband of a former councillor.

A video of the victim revealed the gruesome act with her. Her face and neck have been burnt badly. In the appalling video, the girl can be heard saying, “Councillor Murugan and Yasagan (alias Kaliyaperumal) burned me after pouring petrol.”

According to Viluppuram Superintendent of Police S Jayakumar, the shocking incident took place on Sunday when the teenage girl was alone at her father Jayabalu’s shop. The two alleged accused came to the shop and then poured kerosene over her, set her on fire.

At the time of the incident, the father of the girl was away from the shop as he had taken her brother to a hospital for treatment of an injury while her mother had gone to the field for some work.

Police stated that antipathy between the victim’s family and the accused was the reason behind the crime.

Meanwhile, a case of murder has been registered against the two accused.

MK Stalin, Tamil Nadu's leader of the opposition, has condemned the act and demanded police should take strict action against the accused under the stringent sections of the IPC.

Stalin also said that the punishment should be a lesson for others so that no further incident would happen in the future again.
