Tamil Nadu: Son commits suicide by jumping before a speeding train; mother hangs herself in shock
Cuddalore: A twin-death tragedy has come as a shock to residents of Cuddalore, especially as one of them was a student who was aspiring to make it big in the world. His mother's alleged suicide following the boy's death (also considered a suicide) just compounded the grief of the relatives.
A 20-year-old youth named Vignesh was the son of Kaathavaraayan, 45 and his wife Rajalakshmi, 40 and they were residents of Kaaraikaadu, next to Cuddalore.
The deceased boy Vignesh had asked his mother Rajalakshmi for money to pay the examination fees. She gave him her ATM card and asked him to withdraw the cash. When he reached the nearby ATM and tried drawing cash he could not succeed. He had come back home and told his mother. Rajalakshmi said there was a balance of Rs 4,500 in the bank account and why would he not be able to draw the cash? An argument ensued between the two on this. Distressed by this Vignesh left the house. He was walking along the Capper Quarry railway station this morning at around 8.40am. At that time an express train from Mannargudi to Tirupati was speeding by. Vignesh allegedly jumped in front of the train and was crushed and he died on the spot.
On hearing the news of her son’s demise mother Rajalakshmi cried loud and was inconsolable. Later, feeling depressed, she went inside her home and allegedly hanged herself to death. On receiving the information, Mudhunagar police rushed to the spot and after retrieving Rajalakshmi’s body sent it for postmortem at the Cuddalore government hospital.
Similarly, the body of Vignesh who was crushed under the train was retrieved by the Cuddalore railway police and sent to the Cuddalore government hospital for postmortem. People in the locality have been saddened by the twin incidents of the student committing suicide by jumping in front of a train and immediately thereafter, his mother hanging herself.
