Tarn Taran Sikh body to celebrate Guru Nanak's birth anniv in Bangladesh

Amritsar: Sampardai Kar Sewa, a Sikh religious body, of Sarhali Kalan village in Tarn Taran district will celebrate the 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev at Gurdwara Nanakshahi, Dhaka, Bangladesh.

While talking to TOI on Thursday, Sampardai Kar Sewa chief Baba Sukha Singh said the members would celebrate the birth anniversary of Guru Nanak on November 15 in Bangladesh.



He added that the Indian high commission in Bangladesh was carrying out repair work, including electric wiring and white washing of the gurdwara.

He said Ajaib Singh Boparai, president of Bangladesh Management Board, Kolkota; Harbhajan Singh Sandhu, secretary, Sampardai Kar Sewa; and Paraslal Begi and Tapas Lal Chaudhary, president and secretary of the Dhaka gurdwara management committee, respectively, held a meeting with the Indian deputy high commissioner in Bangladesh Bishwadip Dey to discuss about the celebration functions.

When asked why they were celebrating the birth anniversary on November 15 instead of November 12, Harbhajan said, “It is Friday and a holiday, and a large number of followers of Baba Nanak would be able to come.”

He added that a jatha (group of pilgrims) of the Indian Sikhs would also converge at the Dhaka gurdwara to pay obeisance at celebrate the birth anniversary of the founder of Sikhism.
