Teacher urinates in open, gets Tripura government notice

AGARTALA: An alleged act of relieving himself in the open has landed a Tripura school teacher in trouble. The Tripura government has issued a showcause notice to the school teacher, who allegedly urinated in an open space near the school. The incident was reported to the sub-divisional magistrate Langtarai Valley in Dhalai on Wednesday.



The accused teacher, Ram Kamal Chakma of Ghagracherra High School, will now be required to file his response to the incident in three days.

The inspector of schools, Paritosh Chandra Deb, in the notice, said Chakma was found urinating in an open place near the kitchen in front of students on November 12. "This kind of shameful and unjustified act from a teacher is highly deplorable and undesirable and hence Ram Kamal Chakma is hereby asked why strict disciplinary action shall not be taken against him," the notice reads. Chakma has been asked to reply within three days.

The Tripura government has banned open urination, defecation and littering and citizens caught littering, disposing of unscientific waste could be fined according to directions of the National Green Tribunal (NGT).

Despite mass awareness and repeated appeals, the habit of littering of waste, including plastic items in drains and water bodies, and urinating in open space continues to be a problem in Agartala. The Agartala Municipal Corporation toilets are shut after sundown, saying toilet fittings and water pumps are stolen .
