Techie burnt alive as car rams truck on Kanpur-Etawah road

KANPUR: A man, driving a car, was burnt alive when it rammed a truck and then caught fire near Bijauli area on Etawah-Kanpur highway in Etawah on Saturday morning.


The passersby and locals tried to open doors of the car to rescue the driver, but failed.

Police have identified the man driving the car as Romit Chatterji, son of Ashish Chatterji, resident of Kanungo Park, Jadopur, Kolkata South.



The vehicle was going towards Kolkata when flames engulfed the car after it rammed a stationary truck near Bijauli on Etawah-Kanpur highway. The locals alerted Dial-100 police team. Before fire tenders could reach the spot, the car was completely gutted, the police said.

"The incident took place at around 6 am. Going by the preliminary findings, the car, being driven by Romit Chatterji, son of Ashish Chatterji, resident of Kanungo Park, Jadopur, Kolkata South, was heading towards Kolkata from Delhi via Etawah-Kanpur highway.

The deceased, an IT professional, had gone to appear in an interview in Delhi, and was returning to Kolkata, when the tragedy occurred. The family of the deceased has been informed about the incident, the police said.
