Telangana: Congress to contest by-poll from Dubbak assembly constituency

HYDERABAD: The Congress will contest the by-poll to Dubbak assembly constituency that fell vacant following the death of sitting MLA Solipeta Ramalinga Reddy of the TRS.

Telangana Congress president and Nalgonda MP N Uttam Kumar Reddy on Friday announced that the Congress will contest the by-elections.

Earlier, Sangareddy MLA T Jayaprakash Reddy of the party had said the Congress will not field a candidate if the widow of Ramalinga Reddy enters the fray for the by-poll. “A decision to contest the by-poll has been taken by the Pradesh Congress Committee,” Uttam clarified.

The schedule for by-poll has not been announced so far by the election commission authorities. Dubbak is one of the Assembly segments of Medak Parliamentary constituency which also has Gajwel Assembly constituency represented by chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao.

Uttam was speaking on the occasion of joining of Telangana Jana Samithi (TJS) secretary Bhawani Reddy into the Congress at his residence in Banjara Hills. Bhawani had contested the 2018-Assembly election from Siddipet Assembly constituency on TJS ticket which had an alliance with the Congress.

He said Bhawani Reddy was an educated politician and had a bright future in politics. He hoped that her entry would strengthen the Congress party in Siddipet.

The TPCC chief asked District Congress Committee president Narsa Reddy to take immediate steps to strengthen the party at mandal level and also convene a constituency-level meeting. “I will attend the meeting. Prepare to win the by-poll,” he said and appealed to the party cadre to gear up for the by-elections.
