Telangana: Leopard attacks two in Nalgonda as forest officials try to catch him

HYDERABAD: Two persons were injured in a leopard attack in Nalgonda district on Thursday morning. Forest officials were trying to catch the leopard whose leg had got stuck in the fencing around a farmer’s field at Rajampet Thanda in Marriguda mandal. When early in the morning, the farmer noticed the leopard , he alerted officials who rushed from Hyderabad to catch it.

The forest officials also used tranquilizers to calm down the leopard but much to their surprise, the leopard chased them and jumped on one of them who was injured.

Another person was also injured at the site. Hundreds of villagers came from the surrounding areas when they got to know that a leopard had been sighted at the village and was being caught.

Just when forest officials thought the tranquiliser would have its affect on the leopard and that they could cage it and take it back into the forest, the leopard leapt on them. The leopard then went underneath a vehicle that the forest officials had come in. Cautious forest officials are on the job of rescuing the leopard even as hundreds of villagers ran in different directions when the leopard lunged at one of the forest staff.

The operation to rescue the leopard is still on. Four months ago, in the same area, another leopard had been rescued by the forest officials.
