Telangana: Sufi saints urge government to protect historic dargahs in Vijayawada

VIJAYAWADA: Religious leaders and sufi saints appealed the state government to take immediate measures for conservation of dargahs in the city which were historical structures. They said that both Syed Shah Ali dargah and Hussain Shah Khadri dargah in the city were 450 year old structures with historical significance.

Kondapalli darga chief and sufi saint Altaf Raza Baba said that the devotees and locals protected the heritage structures when the previous government attempts to bulldoze them.


Speaking at a round-table conference held on Monday, Altaf Raza said that the dargahs were properties of Prophet Mohammed as they were set up by the family members of the prophet. He said that thousands of Hindu and Muslim devotees visit Syed Shah Khadri dargah located right at the bottom of Indrakeeladri before visiting Durga temple as they believe that it would bring them prosperity. He said that TDP government had tried to usurp the land of dargah in the guise of construction of flyover which was thwarted by the devotees from all the religious.

The religious leaders said that they would shortly meet the endowments minister Vellampalli Srinivas and deputy chief minister Amzad Basha to seek their support in renovation of the heritage structures. Vijayawada sufi saint Nazeeruddin Baba , Samshee Kaleem , Hafeez Syed Basha, Rehman, Amzad Hussain and others were present at the meeting.
