Telangana's first dry port to come up in Nalgonda district

HYDERABAD: The Telangana government is going to set up the first dry port in the erstwhile Nalgonda district. Though land has not been identified, it is likely to be located close to railway stations and national highway for a hassle-free transportation.

Minister for industries KT Rama Rao announced this during the inauguration of TIF-MSME Green Industrial Park at Dandumalkapur in Yadadri-Bhuvanagiri district on Friday.

The government has been mulling over developing a dry port and Telangana State Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (TSIIC) got a feasibility study done. The report gave four priorities and the first priority was the erstwhile Nalgonda district. The second priority was given to Zaheerabad, while Jadcherla and Nizamabad highway were third and fourth priorities. The consultancy estimated that 500 acres to 1,500 acres would be required for the dry port.

Speaking at the inauguration, the minister said Dandumalkapur park was first-of-its-kind pollution-free industrial park in the country, which was developed in 482 acres attracting investments of Rs 1,552 crore. The park can house more than 450 industrial units, providing direct employment of 19,000 and indirect employment of 30,000, he said.

The minster said a skill development centre would also set up at the park to train the local youth. "With a walk-to-work concept, a housing colony is being built in 192 acres on the park premises. The government has provided the infrastructure and basic amenities in the park and also laid a road from the national highway to the park," KTR said.

The minister said MSMEs and industrialists are happy with uninterrupted power supply to the industries and hassle-free and time-bound permissions. He said so far 12 lakh jobs have been provided to youth under TSiPASS.

Minister Jagadish Reddy, Telangana Industrialists' Federation (TIF) president Sudhir Reddy, TSIIC MD Narsimha Reddy and IT and industries principal secretary Jayesh Ranjan were present.

The Green Industrial Park is jointly developed by TSIIC and TIF.
