Tension during Jagganath Yatra in Bharuch

Surat: Tension prevailed during the Lord Jagganath’s rathyatra in Bharuch when some unidentified person pelted a stone on the procession. The police immediately took control over the situation and that the yatra could pass without any further flare up.

Sources said that the yatra was taken out from Jannath Temple at Furja Bandar on Thursday evening.

When it reached the cross roads, a stone was pelted by some unidentified person spreading panic among the devotees. However, the police immediately swung into action and that the yatra passed on peacefully.

Those present in the yatra stated that the music that was being played was stopped as the chariot had reached near the Furja Bandar mosque located on the cross roads. When the yatra crossed the mosque, the music was again played. This is when somebody threw a stone from the other direction and that the devotees saw few dozen people from other community approaching the yatra.

Talking with TOI, district superintendent of police, Rajendrasinh Chudasama said, “The situation is totally under control. Someone had tried to create tension, but we took control over the situation and dispersed the crowd. The yatra ended peacefully without any untoward incident.”
