Terror alert in Coimbatore after '6 LeT men enter Tamil Nadu via Sri Lanka'

COIMBATORE: The coastal district of Coimbatore was put on high alert following intelligence inputs about the presence of at least six Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorists in the area.


The intelligence inputs suggested that the six terror operatives entered India from Sri Lanka . Among them, one is a Pakistani national while the other five are Sri Lankan Tamil Muslims.

The inputs said that the suspects are in disguise as Hindus.



In the alert, the security agencies have identified the Pakistani national as Illyas Anwar.

Following the alert, ADGP (law & order) Jayant Murali visited Coimbatore to take stock of the security arrangements.

IG (West Zone) K Periaiah to inspected the security bandobust and carried out vehicle checks at Mettupalayam area.
