THANE: Around 40 passengers travelling in a MSRTC bus , from Thane to Borivali , were evacuated after the crew noticed smoke emanating from the engine on Tuesday evening.

The Regional Disaster Management Cell officials said the driver of the bus, Anil Jaybha, noticed the smoke after which he alerted his colleague conductor, Kunal Vatore, following which the CNG-run bus was stopped near R Mall, Ghodbandar Road, Manpada.

The rescue teams were called and the passengers were evacuated.

"Initial investigations revealed the smoke was emanating due to overheated engine," said Santosh Kadam, chief of disaster management cell.
