Three dilapidated houses collapse due to overnight rains in Vadodara

VADODARA: Three dilapidated houses in the old city of Vadodara collapsed due to heavy overnight rains. Five persons, of whom one was injured, were rescued from two houses.


Vadodara taluka which consists of the city and some of the outgrown areas received 55mm rainfall in 24 hours until Monday 6am.

At Bardan lane near Jubileebaug the house collapsed when the three occupants were asleep. Fire officials were called by the locals who were already trying to rescue the occupants. A fire department sources said that two occupants were moved out very quickly while one person was buried under the debris and had suffered injuries. The injured person was taken to SSG Hospital for treatment.

Another incident was reported from Kalupura where a slab of terrace crashed on the lower floors. Two persons rushed out of the house without any injuries. The third incident took place in Kuberchand ni Pol in Wadi area where a several years old house collapsed. Locals said that the house was unoccupied for the last four years.

Several areas like MG Road, Dandiya Bazaar, and Sayajigunj were waterlogged due to incessant rains. Residents of many areas also reported that their localities did not have electricity for a few hours due to rains.
