Three from Surat get swept into Narmada, missing

Vadodara: Three persons from Surat went missing at Poicha in Narmada district after they were dragged in the strong currents of Narmada river on Saturday afternoon.

Nimesh Joshi (30), Vaibhav Joshi (24) and Ravi Joshi (22) went for a dip in the river after performing religious ceremony on its banks. As the three cousins started getting dragged, two other family members Suresh Joshi and Bhupendra Joshi, too, jumped in the water to save the trio.

However, they too started getting dragged away.

When the local boatmen saw all of them struggling to get out of water, they rushed to their help but could save only Suresh and Bhupendra. Locals searched for the three youth till late in the evening but remained traceless. On Sunday, they will search for them again and local administration is also lilely to join the search operation.

The trio’s uncle Pravin Joshi, who lives in Godhra, said that all five are natives of Mahisagar and have been living in Surat for past several years. They were visiting Poicha to perform the rituals at ‘triveni sangam’ where Narmada, Orsang and ‘gupt’ Saraswati meet.
