Three held for setting man afire in Pratapgarh

PRAYAGRAJ: In a shocking incident, a 25-year-old man identified as Ambika was tied to a tree and set afire by the family of a woman with whom he was allegedly having an affair in Bhujaini village under the limits of Fatanpur police station of Pratapgarh district late on Monday night. Police, however, have arrested three persons on the charges of kidnapping and setting the youth on fire.

The irate mob after the killing of youth went berserk and set two police vehicles including police response vehicle and a patrolling jeep on fire. Heavy police arrangements have been made to defuse tension.

Senior police officials including IG (Prayagraj range) KP Singh and SP (Pratapgarh) Abhishek Singh were camping in the village.

Police said that the series of incident started taking place when the youth who had an affair with a local girl, had uploaded a video on social media after she got selected in police department.

Angry over his act, her family members had last month lodged a police complaint and the youth was sent behind the bars.

Few days back when youth was bailed out, the family members of woman got agitated and kidnaped the youth from his house.

This was not enough for them, the alleged kidnappers tied him with a tree and set him on fire.

Pratapgarh SP Abhishek Singh told TOI that the three persons including father and brother of woman who were involved in the incident, were arrested. He added that police was also looking for two more persons in this connection.
