Three Magical Towns In Meghalaya

I had often heard stories from my parents about visiting Meghalaya, a small state in India, in my childhood days. I barely recollect the memories as I was only two years old. So that desire was always alive within me to discover those places.

Finally, I was able to plan it with my family, visiting three Magical towns of Meghalaya - Shillong, Cherrapunji, and Mawlynnong.

I fall short of words whenever I try to describe the limitless beauty of these three simple yet mystic towns.

Our first destination was Shillong and we had selected one of the royal palaces of the King of Tripura as our place of stay for a short and sweet four days of the tour. The journey from the Guwahati airport to Shillong engulfed us with soothing greenery all around. The mind was instantly refreshed with the freshness and purity. The oxygen in the air filled us with new energy as we stepped into the first day of our trip.

The second day was spent moving up and down the hills as the clouds played hide and seek and danced along the gigantic mountains. The Laitkor peak was filled with an air of romance with the sky mingling with the widespread mountainous stretch. I opened up my hands to grasp the vastness within me as if not to let it go from me. Its so heavenly and magical. The beauty of the place seemed never-ending as we moved ahead towards the Nohkalikhai Falls and the Umiam Lake.

The third day was a visit to Cherrapunji, the city of magnificent waterfalls. As we proceeded towards the Mawkdok Dympep Valley View Point my heart started beating fast with the view of the breathtaking verdant gorges. I stood standstill for a while lost in the thoughts of the power of Mother Nature and her bag full of wonders spread in various forms and in various ways. The wonders seem to increase in an exponential manner as we continued onwards towards the Noh-Kalikai, Dain-Thlen and Kynrem waterfalls. The magical thing about these falls was the fact that for a few moments there is absolutely no trace of the falls. But suddenly like a magician waving his magic wand the clouds move apart and the falls with the gushing sound of the waters appear from nowhere. I remember we shouted and ran to have that wonderful glimpse. It was a truly ecstatic experience.

The last and final day was spent on a simple and beautiful town called Mawlynnong. The air was full of freshness within this wonderfully adorned village full of flowery gardens and simple neat huts. The village is an example to our humanity that how cleanliness can bring in positive vibes in our daily lives. We had a refreshing experience as we made our way slowly through the village paths. From the village we went on to view the Living natural root bridge, the roots of evergreen trees interestingly twined to form a bridge strong enough for people to cross over. A really amazing view and experience to watch the sky embracing trees.

The fact that I want to mention is that its not that I have recently visited these places. It has been quite some time, but their magnificence is so immense that the images of these three mystical and magical towns of Meghalaya are still alive in my memory. The memories imbibe a tremendous positivity within me and I have a strong feeling that I will visit these places soon.
