Three murders in 24 hours in UP's Shamli

MUZAFFARNAGAR: In a rather shocking set of events, at least three murder cases were reported from Uttar Pradesh’s Shamli in the past 24 hours – mostly over trivial issues.

A man was thrashed by his neighbours over a minor issue in the first case on Tuesday night.

The second incident took place in Jhinjhana where the village pradhan’s brother was killed with a sword by his neighbour after an argument over drinking liquor.

The third murder incident occurred in Babari where a youth was shot dead by miscreants over his suspected affair with the girl.

The first incident occurred in Pawti Kalan village under Kairana police station at 9 pm where Sharukh Ahmed, 20, was returning home on a new motorcycle. This is when a few village locals passed provocative remarks about his new bike. Soon, Ahmed picked up a fight with them. On hearing about the incident, Ahmed’s father Nawab rushed to the spot and tried to pacify them. But, supporters of the youths who made the remarks on Ahmed started to swell and they began thrashing the father-son duo. Nawab was reportedly beaten to death while his son sustained severe injuries. Police began a probe and sent Nawab’s body for postmortem.

A 28-year-old man was murdered with a sharp-edged weapon after a quarrel broke out between Bharat and Mithun over drinking liquor in the second incident in Jhinjhana. Bharat was taken to a hospital where he succumbed while accused Mithun fled the spot. Bharat’s brother Itwari who is the village chief of Alauddinpur also sustained injuries and was admitted to hospital. Police registered an FIR in the matter.

In the third incident, Rohit Malik, 25, was shot dead and his body was found in a forest area under Babari police station on Wednesday morning. Police nabbed two accused Sanjeev and his associate Bittu, a former army man.

According to police, Sanjeev’s daughter was in a relationship with Rohit which is said to be the main reason behind the murder. Superintendent of police (Shamli) Ajay Kumar said, “FIRs have been registered and probe is on. We have arrested two accused in Rohit’s murder and recovered a countrymade weapon and bullets. In the case of Bharat’s murder, raids are being conducted to nab the culprit.”

Notably, the police are investigating the statement given by Nawab’s family. “No injury mark was reported on Nawab’s body. Kairan police is probing into the matter,” SP said.
