Three-year-old attacked by monkey in Vrindavan

Agra: A three-year-old girl was injured in Vrindavan on Wednesday after she attacked by a monkey.

The girl, Pranjal Tewari, was waiting for her school van outside her house with her aunt, when she was attacked. This comes four days after a similar attack on a local businessman by a group of monkeys.

According to the aunt, Urmila, this was not the first time when such an incident had happened in their locality, adding she was standing with her niece outside their house in Kailash Nagar when the monkey attacked her.

She further said, “The girl has received medical treatment, but she’s now scared to go out.”

On July 6, local businessman Nikunj Goyal was brutally attacked by a group of monkeys as he left his home for some work in the morning. He received bites all over his body, including his back and an arm. He uploaded CCTV footage of the attack on Facebook on Monday, and said his son was also injured in an attack by monkeys a month ago.

On June 20, an 8-year-old boy, Yashraj Goswami, was attacked by a group of monkeys while he was playing in a park near Banke Bihari temple.

According to figures released by the Mathura district hospital, the number of monkey bite cases has risen since April. Around 120 monkey bite cases have been reported till July 10. This includes 247 cases in June, 154 in May and 62 in April.

According to chief medical superintendent (CMS) of Mathura district hospital, Dr R S Maurya, the data pertains to the entire district. “People from every corner of the district visit the hospital to be administered vaccines, in cases of monkey and dog bites,” he said.

He added that cases of dog bites have also risen in the last three months. As per figures, 533 dog bite cases were reported in April, 1,269 in May, 1,119 in June and 351 till July 10.
