Thrissur: Three arrested in excise custodial death case

Thrissur: Three excise officials have been arrested in connection with the recent custodial death of ganja case accused Ranjit near Guruvayur. The police gave the names of the arrested persons as preventive officers Abdul Jabbar and Anoop Kumar, and civil excise officer Nidhin M Madhavan. Two more excise officials have surrendered before the police and they are being interrogated . Their arrests are likely to be recorded on Wednesday, the police sources said.

Ranjit from Tirur in Malappuram was taken into custody on October 1, and 2.5kg of ganja was seized from him. He died within hours of being taken into custody. The excise department has already suspended eight officials, including the three who have been arrested, in connection with the incident.
