THS Bonney files nomination from Shillong Lok Sabha seat

SHILLONG: Khun Hynniewtrep National Awakening Movement (KHNAM) candidate, THS Bonney, filed his nomination papers on Tuesday, becoming the first aspirant to do so from the Shillong Lok Sabha seat.

Accompanied by KHNAM president and the lone legislator from the party in the state assembly, Adelbert Nongrum, and his supporters, Bonney filed his papers at the district commissioner's office here.



Talking to the media after submitting his papers, Bonney said if he gets elected, then he will try to resolve the boundary dispute with Assam and improve the standard of education and the lives of the rural population in the state. Admitting that the battle for the Shillong seat is difficult, he said, "Everything depends on the voters and their choice." Bonney was hopeful that the people will give the regional party a chance to represent them in Parliament.

KHNAM chief Adelbert Nongrum said he is confident his party candidate will win the Shillong LS seat.

The last day for filing nomination papers for the Shillong LS constituency is March 25 and scrutiny of the same will be taken up on March 26, while the last day for withdrawal of nomination is March 28.

The district election officer of East Khasi Hills announced the names of expenditure observers. They are Hiwase Anoop Sadashiv and Rajesh Kothari.

The district election officer of West Garo Hills said election observer for Tura parliamentary seat and Selsella assembly constituency has arrived. Gudrun Nehar, the election expenditure observer, can be contacted for any complaint related to the violation of the model code of conduct.
