Tirupati Balaji temple assets not for sale

Hyderabad: Following huge uproar from devotees and various religious and political groups, India's richest Tirumala Balaji temple has taken to policy decision against selling any property gifted to the Lord by devotees.
This may put an end to the continuing protests.

The Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) trust board had its quarterly meeting through video conferencing on Thursday and took several important decisions.



Trust board chairman YV Subba Reddy announced that a resolution was passed to protect the assets of the God of Seven Hills. In case of any assets becoming a liability for the administration by virtue of maintenance, the temple would seek the guidance of seers on further course.

The TTD came up with this decision following the huge protests against its move to auction 23 assets in four districts of Tamil Nadu and another 25 assets elsewhere in Andhra Pradesh and Rishikesh.

"The board has decided not to auction or sell any of the properties of Tirumala temple, including lands, buildings and other gifts donated by devotees", the chairman said.

The meeting also decided to order a comprehensive inquiry into the decisions taken by the board during the previous TDP government. “We have already ordered a vigilance enquiry into the decisions of the previous trust board. We have also recommended to the government to take action against those who launched a malicious campaign against the TTD,” the chairman said.

The temple is ready for reopening anytime soon after the lockdown. Queue system has been modified to suit the new physical distancing norms in view of COVID-19 pandemic.

VHP calls for protests on May 30
Meanwhile, the Viswa Hindu Parishad (VHP), which has been vehemently opposing sale of the properties of any temple including TTD, called for a protest on May 30.

VHP Andhra Pradesh unit joint secretary G Subhramanyam said in a statement that Hindus should protests from their own places on the day to press for an Act to prohibit sale of assets of any temple in the state.
