Tirupati station to get world-class makeover! Passengers to enjoy hotel, multiplex facilities

New Delhi: Indian Railway passengers will be able to enjoy world-class amenities at the Tirupati railway station in the near future! Railways is planning to redevelop Tirupati station into world-class a hub. It may be noted that that station falls under the Guntakal division of the South Coast Railway (SCR) zone in the state of Andhra Pradesh.

The main objective behind the expansion and redevelopment is to decongest the main Tirupati station and at the same time provide modern world-class amenities to the visitors. Under this project, budget hotels and multiplexes have been proposed to be a part of the station. Budget hotels will be an option for Indian Railways passengers who are willing to stay near the station and are looking for quick, affordable accommodation.

As per a recent report, the Tirupati railway station is all set to become a world-class station by 2023. The redevelopment will be carried out by the Rail Land Development Authority (RLDA), which is a government agency for the development of unused land. SCR zone has already proposed the redevelopment of the station by involving private players since the station will be developed under PPP model by NBCA and RLDA.

It is no new information that because of Tirumala Tirupati Balaji temple, the Tirupati station receives a high footfall of passengers on a regular basis. The report cited Guntakal Division DRM Alok Tiwari saying that the station receives a footfall of around one lakh passengers, visitors on a daily basis. There are a total of 13 running train lines with five platforms spread across the station. In the redevelopment proposal, three more platforms have been proposed to be constructed.

The development also includes the construction of multiplex in the south side terminal building of Tirupati East. There will also be a budget hotel block. This side of the station will also have a waiting area, food court, concourse area and separate platform levels for arriving and departing passengers. According to the national daily report, this redevelopment plan is still in the tendering process. 

It is worth mentioning that the station has been redeveloped a little in the past couple of months as well and some of the modern amenities have been made available already at the station. The station currently has open waiting halls at the which have been provided with steel benches in a spacious, ventilated area for the convenience of passengers. The station also has airport-style illumination since it has been illuminated with LED lights at several locations.

Recently, a premium air-conditioned waiting lounge named ‘Atithi’ was also inaugurated. Passengers can use the lounge service at a nominal cost of Rs 50 per hour. The lounge offers state-of-the-art facilities like plush sofas, recliners, dining area and washrooms for both men and women. Lifts, escalators, foot over bridges and retiring rooms have also been built at several areas of the station.

In order to beautify the station, the entry walls of the station have been decorated and transformed with mural depictions of ‘seven incarnations of Lord Vishnu’. The walls of open waiting halls, ladies waiting hall and AC waiting rooms have also been beautified with local folk art which is symbolic of the historical Dravidian architecture.
