TMC man shot at in Keshpur; party blames BJP for attack

KESHPUR: A Trinamool worker at Keshpur in West Midnapore was allegedly shot at by BJP workers on Saturday night when he was on his way home. He was admitted to a hospital in Midnapore town and later shifted to another hospital in Kolkata.

Sources said the victim, Sanjay Sanyasi (35), is a resident of Thaur village, who rents out tractor to farmers.

He went to Kolkoli village with another Trinamool worker. While coming back, some assailants approached them and opened fire. While Sanyasi was shot in his left leg, his friend managed to escape unhurt. He was rushed to a hospital. Trinamool's Keshpur block president Sanjay Pan alleged that BJP workers are attacking their workers as they are putting up a political fight against them. However, BJP's Ghatal district president, Antara Bhattacharya, denied any involvement of their party workers in the incident. On Sunday morning, Trinamool party office at Anandapur in Keshpur was allegedly attacked by BJP workers. Seven Trinamool workers, including the party's booth president, were injured. "These incidents show how the BJP is trying to capture Keshpur through violence," Trinamool district president Ajit Maiti said. None was arrested.
