TN highways dept begins eviction of encroachers to widen Pudukkottai Road in Trichy

TRICHY: The maintenance wing of the state highways department on Tuesday launched civil work on widening a portion of the Pudukkottai Road in Trichy .

Highways department officials began eviction of encroachers on either side of the road.

“There are 43 permanent encroachments identified in the 600-metre stretch between TVS tollgate and head post office signal.

All the encroachments would be demolished with the support of the city police to widen the road at an estimated cost of Rs 4.50 crore,” a highways department official said.

The width of the Pudukkottai Road will be increased from 15 metre to 20 metre.

The road widening would be completed in six months, the official said.

The narrow stretch is witnessing frequent accidents.
