TNCC chief to party district presidents: Don't remove or appoint office-bearers without my consent

CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu Congress Committee president K S Alagiri on Monday warned the party’s district presidents against removing or appointing office-bearers arbitrarily without the consent of the state leadership.

The announcement follows trouble in the party’s Vellore district unit where district president J Jothi had removed a few office-bearers and appointed new people to those posts.

“The district presidents have no power to remove office-bearers without my consent, be it at the district level or towns and town panchayats falling within their district, as also those in associate organisations of the party. They also cannot arbitrarily appoint partymen to the posts, without the approval of the state leadership,” Alagiri said in a statement.

Alagiri said the office-bearers removed from their posts by Vellore district president Jothi were being reinstated in their respective posts. The fresh appointments made by Jothi were declared invalid.

“Disciplinary action will be initiated against those who intend to indulge in such arbitrary moves in future,” Alagiri warned.
