To dedicate 550th Guru Nanak's Birth Anniversary, Weekend League Sports Competitions commence in Moga

Ahead of the 550th Birth Anniversary of the First Sikh Guru Nanak Dev falling in November, the district administration in association with sports and education department Moga on Friday, inaugurated a Weekend League Sports Competitions.The event was commenced from Bhupendra Khalsa Senior Secondary School here with a Hockey match in which Hockey Coach (Retd.) from Sports Authority of India Vijay Kaushik was a Chief Guest while Deputy District Education Officer (DEO secondary) Pargat Singh and District Sports Officer Balwant Singh presided over the event.The Hockey match took place between boys teams of Bhupendra Khalsa Senior Secondary School and Government Senior Secondary School Butter in which the former team clinched the Hockey league after a 5-0 win.On the occasion, all participants were conferred with hockey sticks and balls for their encouragement.

Kaushik, while addressing the gathering, gave the lesson to follow the teachings of the Guru Nanak and also asked the students to give maximum participation in sports activities.DSO Balwant said that Moga is the first district to take such initiative with the guidance of Deputy Commissioner Sandeep Hans and directions of Additional Chief Secretary (Sports) Sanjay Kumar and Director Sports Amrit Kaur Gill. “The competitions of different games will be organised at every weekend throughout the year till the occasion of Birth Anniversary in November. The competitions will be held at different schools in the district,” he said.He said that different games will include Athletics, Badminton, Basket Ball, Football, Hand Ball, Judo, Kabaddi, Kho-Kho, Roller Skating, Volleyball, Weight Lifting and Wrestling.Meanwhile, Lecturer Manjit Singh, Convener Hockey Kulwant Singh Kalsi, Athletics Coach Jagvir Singh and Football coaches Navtej Singh and Hardeep Singh were present on the occasion.
