Tobacco ban continues in Sultanpur Lodhi

KAPURTHALA: Kapurthala deputy commissioner D P S Kharbanda has continued the ban on sale and use of tobacco products within municipal limits of Sultanpur Lodhi . In his order passed under section 144 of CrPC, the DC has said that the order was being issued in view of the holy city status declared by the home department of Punjab government on October 13, 2010.




Sale and use of tobacco products is being banned in view of the religious importance of the town and sentiments of the people in municipal limits of Sultanpur Lodhi, the order reads. The prohibitory order has been issued for two months till August 29, after a similar order passed two months back lapsed. Officials said a fresh order would be issued after two months.

State-level functions related to 550th anniversary of Guru Nanak are slated to be held in Sultanaur Lodhi, where the founder of Sikhism got enlightenment and spent quite a few years of his life. Major preparations are already on to mark the occasion.
