Toilet No Prem Katha in Odisha: Koraput & Bargarh top list of schools sans toilets

Bhubaneswar: While Koraput tops the State with most schools without separate toilet facility for girls, Bargarh tops in boys schools without toilet facilities.

As per the reply of State School and Mass Education Minister Samir Ranjan Dash in the House, a total of 441 schools in the State still have no toilet facility.

The Minister further informed that a high of 1,485 boys schools in State have no toilet facility.

The district-wise data tabled in the State Assembly revealed that Koraput district has 123 such schools that don’t have the toilet facility for the girl students. Similarly, nearly 151 schools in the district have no separate toilet facility for the boys.

Jajpur and Puri followed Koraput with more proportion of schools sans girls toilet. Bhadrak and Nayagarh districts figure among the top 5-districts having schools sans toilet facility for girl children.

A total of 268 schools in the Bargarh district have no separate toilet facility for the boys. The district has 7 schools without the facility for the girl students. Sambalpur with a tally of 215 follows Bargarh.

The information disclosed in the House only mentioned about toilet facilities in the schools. It, however, didn’t reveal the number of functional toilets in the schools.

As is well known, without 24X7 water availability, toilets render non-functional. The information tabled regarding schools having drinking water facility in Odisha reveals less. As data is silent on availability or non-availability of drinking water in all the schools in the State.
