Tortured by in-laws, Churu woman reaches police station semi-nude

JAIPUR: Four people have been arrested after a married woman in Churu was forced to walk to the police station in semi-nude condition after allegedly being assaulted by her in-laws on Sunday. They were later released on bail on Monday evening.

The woman, whose husband was not present, registered a complaint of domestic abuse against the in-laws after a spat in which she was beaten and had her clothes torn off.

The police have arrested the four accused.

According to the police, the victim's husband is in Assam. He is a daily wage labourer. The woman hails from Akola in Maharashtra and had moved to Churu after marriage. The incident is of Bidasar in Churu district . The police said, the 28-year-old woman was beaten up by mother-in-law as well as sister-in-law and was being subjected to violence repeatedly since her marriage about a year ago.

Narendra Kumar Sharma, circle officer, Sujangarh in Churu said, “the victim has lodged a complaint against her in-laws of physically assaulting her. In her complaint, she alleged that for past one year she was regularly beaten by them and a similar incident occurred on Sunday also during which her clothes were torn off. We have arrested four in this case including the mother-in-law and the sister-in-law.”

While the woman was walking from her house to the police station in semi-nude condition, the onlookers, instead of helping, allegedly took photographs and videos of the complainant.

“We came to know that few people took videos of the woman and even arrested one for the same. Anyone found to be sharing photos and videos of the complainant will also be arrested,” added a police official.
