Trade bodies demand early resumption of Dahej-Ghoga Ro-Ro ferry service

Surat: South Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SGCCI) and Bhavnagar Chamber of Commerce (BCC) have made a joint representation to Union Government for early resumption of Dahej-Ghoga Ro-Ro Ferry Service.

SGCCI president Ketan Desai and BCC secretary Sunil in their joint representation said dredging at Dahej has led to closure of this service.

This has affected transport of goods like cement, salt and cloth through marine route causing massive loss to the industry, they said.

A joint delegation of the two bodies had met Union minister of state for shipping Mansukh Mandaviya in New Delhi a few days ago where they submitted the representation. They also highlighted that due to closure of this service, nearly 25,000 tickets of travel between October 20 and 28 had to be cancelled in a single day. “It is during Diwali that large number of people travel to their native places along with their vehicles from Surat. They are in difficulty because Dahej-Ghoga Ro-Ro Ferry Service has now stopped operating,” Desai said. The delegation had also met shipping secretary Gopal Krishna.

The minister and the secretary assured the joint delegation from Gujarat that steps would be taken for early resumption of the service.
