Transferred medical Professor told to join new postings

Ahmedabad: Even though around a week has passed since the state government ordered transfers of 150 medical college faculty members to medical colleges suffering from staff crunch, they are yet to join their new postings.

The state government on Wednesday issued a notification in this regard, directing the deans of medical colleges to ensure that their attendance is regularized.

The government said that students and patients are suffering as these newly transferred faculty members are staying away from work, and not performing their duties.

The transfers happened in the wake of Medical Council of India (MCI) inspection for government-run, Gujarat Medical Education and Research Society (GMERS) and two greenfield colleges over the next few months, said sources close to the development.

MCI began its inspection process with Ahmedabad’s Visnagar Medical College and M K Shah Medical College.

The government transferred 150 doctors from government medical colleges to GMERS colleges that were faced with the issue of staff crunch.

The maximum transfers are from B J Medical College, said sources.

The transfers have been to GMERS colleges at Junagadh, Gotri, Himmatnagar, Amreli, Valsad and Patan, where the inspection is being carried out, said sources.

The entire process is likely to continue till December 15 and the certificates are expected to be handed over early next year.
