Transgender raped, tortured; Pakistan police arrests five men after one month

Islamabad: A transgender person was allegedly tortured and raped by five persons in Pakistan. On Sunday, the Harappa police arrested five men who were accused of torturing the survivor. The incident took place on September 20 near Dhoop Sari. The survivor has alleged that the police were reluctant to take action against the accused.

How it happened

On September 20, four transgender persons from Kamali had gone to Mai Maseet Wali Mela in Dhoop Sari village for a show. The man who booked them for the show was identified as Zulfiqar. The four members of the transgender community did the show and were on their way to Jhang when five men stopped their car.

At around 2 am, the armed men allegedly took Alizeh out of the car and went to a farmhouse. According to a report, Alizeh was tortured and raped by two of the accused. Meanwhile, three of them stood outside as guards.  Alizeh said that she was kept at the farmhouse for around 3 hours.

The five men then drove the survivor to Sahiwal and left the spot. Alizeh's colleague, Binyamin picked her up. Alizeh narrated her ordeal to Binyamin and they went to the police. They also carried a medical report with them which confirmed that Alizeh had been raped.

The Harappa police, however, did not register a case. After seeing the police's reluctance, Binyamin and the survivor went to Sahiwal DPO and told him about the incident. It was on the DPO's instructions that the police registered a case. Binyamin claimed that the police were asking them to withdraw the case. He said that instead of nabbing the accused, the police threatened them.

Zeeshan, Harappa station house officer (SHO) claimed that Alizeh had approached them late. Three of the accused have not been named while the other two have been nominated.

The survivor's name has been changed to Alizeh.

Transgender murdered, mutilated by two men in Raipur

A similar incident came to light from Balrampur, Chattisgarh in January where a transgender man was murdered for refusing to establish a physical relationship with two men. The deceased was identified as Jaiprakash alias Alka.

Alka was at the Tatapani festival ground when she met Saurabh Gupta and his friend Shashank Gupta. The two men mistook Alka for a woman and took her to an isolated place. When they discovered that Alka was transgender, they beat her up and dragged her into a nearby forest. Saurabh and Shashank then murdered Alka with the help of rock and mutilated her private parts.
