Trio kills youth, attacks two others in Nanguneri

Tirunelveli district police are on the lookout for a trio for murdering a youth from another community and launching a deadly attack on two others from that community. The chain of incidents began late on Monday night causing tension in Nanguneri area leading to heavy police deployment to avert an inter-caste clash .




A Selvakumar, 29, a construction worker of Kothaicheri village near Eruvadi, was talking over the phone near Badrakaliamman temple when three people arrived on a bike and started attacking him with sharp weapons. They chased him as he ran for cover, murdered him and fled the scene. That night, the trio launched a deadly attack on Kamaraj, a former DMK union secretary, in front of his house at Perumpathu village near Nanguneri. He was rushed to the Tirunelveli government medical college hospital in a critical condition.

The trio also tried to attack another person by name Selvakumar at Inanthapur village near Nanguneri. Since he managed to escape, the furious gang ransacked his house and fled. Eruvadi police said that the man who was murdered and those who were attacked were from the Nadar community while all the three accused, Samithurai, Subbhiah and Ramar, belonged to the Maravar community. Previous enmity is suspected to be the reason behind the murder and deadly attacks. The police said that further details would be known only when the accused are arrested. On Tuesday, relatives of the deceased blocked the Kothaicheri - Dohnavur road demanding the immediate arrest of the attackers and conspirers. They cleared the road after police and revenue officials promised speedy action. Tirunelveli district superintendent of police P Ve Arunsakthikumar visited the place and conducted preliminary investigations.
