Tripura insurgent group: Centre signs peace agreement

New Delhi: The Center marked Saturday a settlement with an extremist gathering of Tripura under which it has consented to set down arms and join the standard.

As per a Home Ministry proclamation, the tripartite Memorandum of Settlement (MoS) was marked here by the legislatures of India and Tripura, and the National Liberation Front of Twipra driven by Sabir Kumar Debbarma (NLFT-SD).

The NLFT-SD has consented to repudiate the way of savagery, join the standard and submit to the Constitution of India, it said.

The gathering has consented to the give up of its 88 units with their weapons.

The gave up units will be given advantages under the Surrender-cum-Rehabilitation Scheme, 2018 of the Ministry of Home Affairs.

The Tripura government will help the gave up frameworks in lodging, enlistment, training, and so on, the announcement said.

The focal government will consider the recommendations of the Tripura government with respect to monetary advancement of innate territories of the state.

The NLFT has been prohibited under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act since 1997 and has been associated with viciousness, working from their camps over the worldwide fringe.

The NLFT has been in charge of savage exercises, including 317 revolt occurrences, in which 28 security powers faculty and 62 regular citizens lost their lives somewhere in the range of 2005 and 2015.

Harmony chats with NLFT were started in 2015 and there has been no brutality by NLFT since 2016.

The MoM was marked by Satyendra Garg, Joint Secretary (Northeast) of Ministry of Home Affairs; Kumar Alok, Additonal Chief Secretary (Home), Tripura; and Sabir Kumar Debbarma and Kajal Debbarma of NLFT-SD.

Afterward, the NLFT agents approached Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
